"In the Basel area we can find well educated people. About 80% of our highly specialized, multilingual workforce also comes from the three countries corner.”

Highly international flavor

Companies are able to take advantage of well trained and highly motivated employers and employees here in Basel  - more so than elsewhere. As well as the Swiss population, tens of thousands of Germans and French cross the nearby borders daily in order to work in Basel. Thanks to its position at the hub of three countries and its traditional openness to other cultures, Basel is an extraordinarily attractive destination for immigrants. Foreigners contribute significantly to Basel’s economic success. The 150 nationalities that are represented in Basel make up one third of its population.

Switzerland’s liberal legislation ensures a labor market that functions well. The excellent standards of training and highly motivated employees as well as the relatively low social costs when compared to the rest of Europe make for high productivity. There is a good relationship between employees and trade unions. The working hours are among the longest in Europe and strikes are virtually unknown.
