Iris Welten appointed the new CEO of BaselArea

The members’ assembly of BaselArea has elected Iris Welten to be its new Chief Executive Officer. Iris Welten is of dual German/Swiss nationality and has over fourteen years of experience in the US, Europe and Asia. She will take up her position on 1 December.

Since 2005, Iris Welten (43) has been lecturer for the Master’s degree in Corporate Finance at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). This year she has been working on her thesis at the University of Zurich and in a research project at the FHNW.

 

Until 2009 she served on the extended executive committee of Zur Rose AG in Frauenfeld as Head of Corporate Services. In this function she was responsible for Business Development, Communication and Quality. Before this, Iris Welten worked for Swiss Life as Head of Investor Relations, for Clariant and also for Deutsche Telekom in New York.

 

She studied Communications, Business Administration and Market Psychology at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. Iris Welten is married and lives in Pfeffingen BL.

BaselArea is responsible for the international promotion of the economic area of Basel. The joint promotional effort by the cantons Basel-Stadt, Baselland and Jura provides foreign companies with support when settling in the region and offers advice to start-up companies. The services of BaselArea are available to those interested free of charge. The team looks after the needs of around 500 customers a year and assists about 80 companies starting up or settling in the region.
