BioMedPartners raise CHF 95 million for new healthcare venture fund
BioMedPartners today announced the first closing of BioMedInvest II L.P., their second venture capital fund, at CHF 95 million.
Basel. BioMedInvest II L.P. is a healthcare-dedicated fund which invests in early - to mid-stage companies in Switzerland, Germany and neighbouring countries of the European Union.
BioMedPartners, founded in 2003, has become one of the leading European life sciences investors, having raised over CHF 240 million until today. Over the last years BioMedPartners were able to generate an extraordinary performance by actively engineering exits with a relatively young portfolio.
The new fund, BioMedInvest II L.P., will be dedicated to investing in innovative private human healthcare companies in Europe. These companies offer significant return potential, as large pharma companies are increasingly acquiring biotech firms to fill their product pipelines. The fund is backed by both existing and new investors, including the experienced lead investor ERP-EIF Dachfonds. The fund will remain open for additional new investors for some months.
“Up to now, BioMedPartners have invested in more than 25 companies and created a track record of successful exits through IPOs and trade sales, including the trade sale of Glycart Biotechnology AG to Roche. The overwhelming support and enthusiasm of existing and new investors validates the excellent and unique investment approach of BioMedPartners”, commented Prof. Dr. Andrea Pfeifer, Chair of the Board of Directors of BioMedInvest I.
“The fact that BioMedPartners were able to raise a new early stage fund in such turbulent times encourages the management team to continue with its favourable business model by investing in promising early stage healthcare companies in Europe and by actively supporting companies in their business/corporate development. BioMedPartners will strive to build a portfolio of mature companies and to generate successful exits and, hence, superior return for investors”, commented the management team of BioMedPartners.
