EasyJet commits to EuroAirport in Basel

EuroAirport (EAP) enjoyed a record year in 2011. The international airport was used by 5.05 million people - more than ever before.

In 2012 the number will increase further, according to Jörg Rämi, director of the airport. A major factor behind this strong growth is the British low-cost airline EasyJet. This airline carried around 2.4 million passengers in 2011, which is 48 percent of the total volume at the EAP.

Ten percent target

In the last two years, EasyJet has invested around 150 million francs in the EAP, expanded its fleet from four to seven planes and, with a view to the coming summer, is including Toulouse, Faro and Ibiza among its destinations. A total of 36 destinations will be offered, so EasyJet employs 250 people locally.

The company aims to grow further in Basel. “For 2012 we are targeting a growth of eight to ten percent”, says Thomas Hagensen, General Manager of Easyjet for the regions Switzerland, Germany, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, explaining the company’s ambitious target.
