Franz Saladin becomes the new CEO of BaselArea

The General Meeting of BaselArea, Economic Promotion, has elected Dr. Franz Saladin to be its new Chief Executive Officer. He will take up his new post in the first half of 2009. The present CEO, Dr. Hans-Peter Wessels, will take up his new function as councillor in the Basel government at the beginning of February.

A chemist by training, Franz Saladin (42) currently heads the Department of Life Sciences, Energy and Environment at the Chamber of Commerce for Basel-Stadt and Baselland. Before this, he held a senior position in the private sector. Franz Saladin grew up in the Laufental and has always felt a close bond with the Basel region. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Duggingen.


BaselArea is responsible for promoting the economic region of Basel on an international platform. The joint promotion of trade and industry by the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Baselland provides support for foreign companies settling in the region and advice for start-up companies. The services of BaselArea are available free of charge to anyone interested. It provides support to about 300 clients a year and assists around 80 enterprises starting up or settling in the area.
