By Train
The dense and extensive rail network ensures that other Swiss cities such as Berne, Lucerne and Zurich can be reached within an hour. Similarly, destinations just over the border can also be easily reached using public transportation. For examples, trains leave for Freiburg im Br. (Germany) and Strasbourg (France) every half hour. The region is served by one of the best developed rail networks within Switzerland and Basel is the meeting point of the SNCF, DB and SBB. In addition, the largest goods station in Switzerland is to be found in Muttenz in Basel Land.
By Car
As an important junction of the Swiss, German and French expressway network, Basel can easily be reached by road. Thanks to its central location and its long tradition as the gateway to Switzerland, today Basel is known as the Swiss center for the transport and logistics industry and is also a pivotal point of the North-South European axis.
By Ship
The Rhine represents yet another important transport artery for the Basel region. The river serves primarily as the channel for the transport of cargo. Its direct access by water means that Basel can be viewed as the southernmost North Sea port.
