Switzerland is once again the world’s most competitive country

Switzerland is the most competitive of all the world’s economies. As last year, the experts of the World Economic Forum (WEF) were full of praise for Switzerland and gave it the number one ranking in the world. The USA by contrast has fallen back in the rankings.

Switzerland is characterized by outstanding innovativeness and has the best research institutions in the world, according to the WEF economists in their report, published in mid- September. Companies here were also said to invest a lot of money in research.


In general, the collaboration between industry and science is strong. The authors of the report also highlighted the role of the authorities and institutions, which are among the most efficient and transparent in the world. They describe Switzerland’s infrastructure as “excellent”.


Flexible labor market
Switzerland can also thank the strong financial sector for its performance. The labor market is said to be very efficient - second only to that of the South-East Asian city of Singapore according to the WEF. The experts rate the business environment as one of the most stable of all.
